Job Description

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated AVP, Global Enterprise Architect to join Manulife’s Global Enterprise Architecture team. The role will push forward the Global Cross-Enterprise Solution architecture vision by creating guidance and mechanisms that enable the company to think firm-wide when considering capabilities development. You'll work closely with Business, Segments Architects, product, and technology partners to translate long-term objectives into designs that fuel firm-wide reuse and convergence.

The team is responsible for defining the process, building blocks, and target-state cross-enterprise vision that helps avoid duplication and optimize architecture. In order to:

  • Lead the application portfolio management initiatives, including driving application rationalization, application portfolio roadmaps, program governance, data management, and total cost of ownership in alignment with the distributed team

  • Align business strategy, goals/objectives with information technology requirements to support business transformation and modernization across the enterprise

  • Developing a coordinated view of company business capabilities and processes using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry-standard techniques

  • Collaborate and communicating with business to ensure IT and business architecture’s requirements are aligned

  • Forecast information technology architecture requirements and developing the organization’s “technology roadmap” to support short- and long-term interpersonal technology requirements aligned with business strategy

  • Develop architectural standards, frameworks, and policies for the acquisition and implementation of IT technologies (hardware and software); monitor and measure the adoption and alignment to standards and guidelines.

  • Develop information roadmaps, information integration strategy at the enterprise level, Architecture business capabilities, Technology, and Applications/Services Portfolio regarding Enterprise initiatives, consolidation solution, assessment solution, and technology in combination with best practices and Buy/Build/Use strategy

  • Facilitate the mapping and auditability of information assets as they flow from upstream legacy, package, or custom development and interfaces to downstream analytical applications, thus ensuring optimal transparency, quality, consistency, and controlled redundancy across the enterprise.

  • Provide architecture artifacts such as architecture reference model, Conceptual Solution Architecture, Architecture decisions, and Interface Specification document at the different level of abstraction and views for Private/hybrid cloud or on-premise solutions

  • Manage complexity by balancing multiple stakeholders with conflicting needs and provide decisions on data architectural qualities such as manageability, scalability, security, and reusability

  • Influence product/vendor direction and integrate technology from an architectural perspective within the business environment, and fulfilled an IT governance role, identify risks and provide risk mitigation

  • Contribute to meeting key project milestones and overall project deliverables on time, within budget, and adhering to relevant standards

What you have:

  • A Bachelors/Masters degree or equivalent (Computer Science, Software Engineering)

  • Executive level Leadership experience from large complex environment

  • Global Enterprise Architecture experience

  • A critical thinker – with the ability to understand contexts, identify patterns and trends, and analyze the impact of different change factors

  • Experience with application portfolio management

  • The desire and ability to understand diverse business domains and develop architectures that meet the current and anticipated business needs across a broad set of partners.

  • A strong software engineering and/or architecture background is required.

  • Experience with and knowledge of common Architecture patterns (e.g. microservices, SOA, Event sourcing, etc.).

  • Experience with data and application integration patterns (Domain-Driven, APIs, messaging, streaming, sync/async).

  • Experience addressing operational and non-functional concerns (e.g. scalability, performance, maintainability, load distribution, resilience, recovery, security, and privacy).

  • Experience with Cloud Architecture and Azure Services

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
