JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

DevOps Engineer II is a technical role supporting the satisfactory operation and maintenance of the WPI Infrastructure. Major initiatives include moving towards Infrastructure as Code using industry automation frameworks and supporting both in-house tooling and vendor provided appliances. This is an advanced level position where a broad knowledge of programming languages and integration methods is expected.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain essential Networking Support Service platforms by:
  • Administer Linux and FreeBSD appliance platforms which provide critical DDI, RADIUS and Policy Management services (EfficientIP, ClearPass, etc)
  • Maintain and support self-service end-user network provisioning services (SecureW2, NetReg)
  • Ensure thorough patch management practices across all platforms
  • Plan and Develop end-users self-service tools using various industry standard programming languages
  • Evaluate emergent technologies and code maintenance releases for all Networking Support Services
  • Investigate and maintain integrations utilized for Card Access and Camera Operations systems by:
  • Assist in cataloging all inbound and outbound data flows from supported systems (OnGuard, Milestone, etc)
  • Work with appropriate directors or departments to enhance integrations
  • Apply best practice source control and CI/CD processes around all integrations
  • Guide and extend the Monitoring Platform which notifies ITS Staff of problems prior to user impact including:
  • Administer all servers and services which comprise the Monitoring Platform (iCinga, AKiPS, Alerta.IO, etc)
  • Follow proper life-cycle management processes for the Monitoring Platform
  • Work with Foundation Technology leadership to implement updates to the IT Monitoring Strategic Plan
  • Collaborate with various directors to provide new and updated monitoring points for specific technologies
  • Provide integrations between various systems to enhance the ITS Monitoring platform using programming languages such as PHP, Python, Perl, and others
  • Support Virtualization and Storage teams to enable automation including:
  • Assist the teams with use of GIT and modern source control to centralize and track changes to often used scripts
  • Foster an ecosystem of Infrastructure as Code by enabling or implementing automation tools (VROPS, AIOps, etc)
  • Investigate self-service tools allowing other teams to provision guests using curated templates rather than direct vSphere/Prism access
  • Develop seamless integration between Virtualization and Storage Platforms with the IT Monitoring Platform for "single pane of glass" visibility
  • Identify opportunities to create tools which allow Service Desk and others to enact targeted functionality safely
  • Manage various internal tools and services for Infrastructure Services including:
  • Administer and extend the internal asset, shipping and receiving tools for tracking purchases and cable inventory levels (SnipeIT, etc)
  • Manage network infrastructure and connectivity documentation platform (Wiki, etc)
  • Maintain Network Operations Center digital displays for graphs, visualization of alerting and support ticket visibility
  • Integrate with ITSM Tools as needed (Cherwell, HaloITSM, etc)
  • Compose ad-hoc scripts, integrations and reports to support various initiatives as needed


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or similar education.
  • 2-5 years' experience in a Programming specific or IT Support position that has focus on scripting/automation

This is an on-site role for first 90 days, with the opportunity to transition to a flexible, hybrid schedule.
