Job Summary

Under the general direction of the GIS Architect, this position will support Campus Planning and Administration & Finance (A&F) with the data development, maintenance and integration of the Geographic Information system (GIS) to support the divisions. This support will include leveraging these information resources by assisting the GIS Architect in improving and developing new applications that provide better capabilities for accessing, visualizing, analyzing, and disseminating the data to help Campus Planning and A&F in their daily operations as well as long range planning efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, maintain, and integrate information and data in various formats as needed to support planning scenarios, on-going planning processes, committee activities, and information critical for decision-making. This could include 2D and 3D models.
  • Design and management of GIS databases in SQL and development of workflows to integrate this data with other significant campus databases like Tririga and R25.
  • Develop applications to help the campus users effectively access and integrate the information into their data driven decision-making processes.
  • Assist GIS Architect with development and maintenance of GIS applications and efforts that support Campus Planning and A&F.
  • Assist with public workshops, community outreach, and planning exercises.
  • Assist in graphic design, report layout and preparation of presentations.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to student staff.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Computer Science or Geosciences related field with 2 years of relevant experience working with GIS or Master’s Degree in GIS Technology with 1 year of relevant experience working with GIS.
  • Demonstrated GIS, CADD (Computer Aided Drafting & Design) and database skills as well as knowledge of industry standards and trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with a wide variety of data sources and data interoperability issues and accurately link database information with key geographic features, develop data attributes, review and resolve database and mapping errors, and update and maintain databases and map features.
  • Strong working knowledge of software applications including, ESRI’s suite of products, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), AutoCAD, Revit, Google Sketch-Up, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop and Illustrator, Microsoft Office, Programming and Python skills a plus.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting on special projects as assigned.
  • Technical writing skills.

Additional Details

This is a temporary 2-year appointment.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, First Shift, 37.5 hour a week.
  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
