Accelerate your career and make a difference for national security in Space by helping lead a team of industry professionals and experts that will architect and build a cloud-based software factory in support of Space Development Agency’s Battle Management Command, Control and Communication (BMC3) Program. The system that you and your team will create will establish the capability to securely and rapidly field mission applications developed by BMC3 ecosystem participants for space vehicle platforms in support of Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) objectives. This position will provide you with exposure to advanced security and automation practices, as well as the opportunity to work with highly skilled engineers and architects. Additionally, you will have the chance to mentor junior developers and leverage your leadership abilities.

SAIC is seeking a Network Hardware Engineer to support a key technical role on a fast paced highly innovative SDA project with the development of a cloud-based software factory for the BMC3 program. This position is primarily remote.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • May conduct network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies as well as internal studies of network performance and traffic analysis.

  • May evaluate new technology and conducts testing of network or hardware systems.

  • Providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture

  • Providing information for hardware and software selection; and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.

  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switchers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.

  • Evaluates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedure’s (SOP’s) & Method of Procedure’s (MOP’s) for network standardization practices

  • Understand business, technical, and program requirements

  • Prepare Lean design documentation, e.g. check in notes, markdown, diagrams & specifications

  • Provide guidance and apply agile and DevOps/DevSecOps practices to streamline product delivery and reliable operations of product.

  • Continuously identify opportunities to automate and save time.

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and eigtheen (18) years or more experience; Masters and sixteen (16) years or more experience; PhD or JD and fifteen years or more experience

CLEARANCE:

Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret clearance

CERTIFICATIONS:

Possess a DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g. Security+) or the ability to obtain the certification within 60 days

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in complex system of systems design, development innovative solutions, Government integration projects, and other large-scale network, with a focus on the design of systems, self-healing mesh networks, or ISP network backbone. This role will require expertise in network architecture development, design, development, and testing of a distributed (networked) compute platforms with space assets.

Requirements:

  • General aptitude of TCP/IP, OSI topology and switching technologies.

  • General aptitude of routing, firewall, and wireless technologies.

  • General knowledge of servers and various network services.

  • Ability to determine and resolve basic and common network issues.

  • Experience with network trouble shooting tools such as ping and traceroute.

  • Experience with network technologies such as wired / wireless networking

  • Experience researching, evaluating and recommending hardware and/or software solutions supporting large scale deployments and/or remediation’s against the LAN/WAN

  • Expert level experience working with some of the following technologies: HSRP, VLAN, CDP, port- channels, MPLS, BGP, LDP, QoS, IPv6, OSPF, vPC, STP, DWDM, EVPN, L2VPN, L3VPN .

Desired experience:

  • Hands-on technical experience with Innoflight or Seeker systems

  • Hands-on technical experience with MPLS networking technologies

  • Experience with spacecraft or satellite related systems

  • Experience in successfully developing, integrating, and testing of software and hardware solutions for networking or space applications

  • A background working with DevOps tool chains and processes

  • CI/CD with Jenkins, GitLab, Bitbucket, or MS Azure

  • Understanding of networking concepts in routed, mobile, and optical networks.

  • Cloud - Platform One

  • Container management with Kubernetes and Helm


Target salary range: $175,001 - $200,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
