Department Summary:

MITRE Technology and Engineering’s Systems Engineering Division delivers innovative, multidisciplinary systems engineering solutions that support MITRE and its diverse sponsor base, and is a leader across government, industry, and academia in advancing next-generation systems engineering. The division’s technical expertise spans mission, enterprise, and domain engineering; systems engineering, architecting, and lifecycle integration; digital engineering, prototyping, and modernization; architecture, interfaces, and open systems; performance analysis, test, and evaluation; and AI-enabled systems engineering. MITRE is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to apply and grow this expertise in support of the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and systems-of-systems, and the analysis of missions for federal agencies.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Applying your systems and mission engineering expertise, with awareness of sponsor needs, to identify and shape areas where MITRE can have significant impact.
  • Applying modern methods and tools — such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Engineering, Mission Engineering, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics — to assess capability needs, requirements, architectures, designs, performance constraints and gaps, proposed changes, and verification and test approaches.
  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques and exploring large tradespaces, while articulating major uncertainties and the associated risks and opportunities.
  • Identifying or developing metrics to measure and analyze relevant system properties, such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, and maintainability.
  • Leading requirements management and analysis, interface management, architecture development and change management, and test and evaluation processes.
  • Performing system design and development, systems modernization, and architecture activities using MBSE and digital engineering approaches.
  • Translating analysis results into actionable recommendations for U.S. Government agencies and providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering and enterprise architecture with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages for quantitative analyses (e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, or R)
  • Ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance within one year from the date of hire
  • Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance
  • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field
  • Broad systems engineering experience across concept development, requirements, architecture, design, test, evaluation, and risk assessment
  • Proficiency with modern systems and digital engineering tools and methods (e.g., MBSE, SysML/UML, DOORS, Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody), including model integration and plugin development
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills using programming and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, R, AFSIM, STK, Command PE) for multi-level modeling, simulation, and operational effectiveness analyses
  • Proven ability to operate in complex systems-of-systems environments, objectively evaluate vendor solutions, and apply technical skills across multiple domains
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted advisor relationships and clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
