Department Summary:
The MITRE Corporation’s All-Domain Integration (ADI) Department (N174) supports development and delivery of integrated, agile mission capabilities that will enable the US and Coalition forces to operate at the speed of relevance. ADI’s focus is to (1) develop joint, all-domain operational concepts; (2) mature these concepts through realizable architectures; and (3) transition the developed capabilities to the warfighter. This involves the near-term modernization of fielded capabilities and development of next generation warfighter operations in all phases of systems evolution: from concept exploration, through experimentation and fielding. MITRE and the ADI department work hand-in-hand with Government sponsors and the warfighter to serve as technical advisors bringing domain experience and state-of-the-art solutions to their most demanding operational challenges. Successful candidates will join our team and immediately begin tackling emerging, high-priority challenges in the areas of all-domain operations and Combined Joint, All-Domain Command & Control (CJADC2).
MITRE is seeking an experienced dynamic Information Systems Security Engineer to join ADI. The Engineer will be responsible for leading information systems security engineering, integration and operational support efforts to advance critical efforts in joint fires, operational experimentation & prototyping, and systems integration. This role requires a strong hands-on background in network engineering, cybersecurity, and systems infrastructure development, as well as demonstrated technical leadership, working with junior staff, collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Architect, deploy, and operate secure network solutions, including integration of advanced network technologies including SD-WAN and 5G capabilities
- Provide Linux systems engineering and implement automation to enhance security posture and operational efficiency.
- Develop and coordinate the architecture, component selection, and experimental validation of tactical communications systems utilizing multiple connectivity modes, including 5G and SATCOM.
- Lead the full lifecycle management of systems and security infrastructure, designing and building comprehensive suites of security and automation tools including SIEM, vulnerability scanning, and patching across multiple security enclaves.
- Provide subject matter expertise for cybersecurity best-practices including compliance, defensive cyber operations, and scanning, patch management, and observability infrastructure.
- Serve as a technical leader, mentoring junior staff in secure systems design and management. Provide instruction and training to peers and external stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, or a related technical field; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Professional experience in cybersecurity, incident response, or systems engineering.
- Demonstrated experience building, scaling, and maintaining security infrastructure, including hands-on expertise with a variety of security tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, firewalls).
- Expertise in Linux systems administration (RHCSA or equivalent experience).
- Professional cybersecurity certification such as CISSP, CASP+, or GIAC (GCIH, GCFE, GCFA).
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and mentor junior engineers.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Justice (DOJ), or other federal agencies.
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
- Ability to travel and work in secure locations.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in a related technical field
- Multiple advanced GIAC certifications (GCTI, GREM, GSEC).
- Familiarity with tactical and ad-hoc communications systems (5G, SATCOM).
- Deep experience in a Security Operations Center (SOC) or Network Operations Center (NOC) environment.
- Experience serving as an Information Systems Security Officer/Manager (ISSO/ISSM).
- 10+ years of professional experience in cybersecurity, incident response, or systems engineering.
