The Tactical Networks Group (65) specializes in advanced network and communications systems development, with a focus on space, airborne, and mobile networks of the future. Tactical wireless networks differ from commercial wireless networks in the lack of infrastructure to support stable connectivity. The varied and stressing operational environment, as well as aircraft speeds and maneuverability, and platform integration provide additional challenges to communication and network systems. The Tactical Networks Group uses a combination of technical analysis, modeling, simulation, emulation, prototype development, and flight tests to develop new communication systems and evaluate and predict their performance.

The Wireless Network Engineer will work with a team on research and development of advanced wireless networking techniques. Primary responsibilities will include protocol definition and implementation in software, development and use of network simulation and/or emulation tools, and processing and analysis of simulation/emulation results.
Requirements:

• An MS in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science including coursework on communications systems and networks. In lieu of an MS, a BS and 3+ years of directly related experience will be considered.
• C/C++ programming skills
• Matlab experience
• Familiarity with the Linux operating system

Preferred:
• 2-5 years experience working on development projects with a team
• Familiarity with advanced wireless networking techniques such as network coding, cognitive radio, delay-tolerant networking.

• Familiarity with network routing protocols and implementations, e.g. OSPF, BGP, AODV, OLSR, Quagga, Cisco, Juniper.
• Familiarity with the Linux kernel networking stack
• Familiarity with network emulation and monitoring tools, e.g. EMANE, Exata, NISTNet, Wireshark.
• Familiarity with discrete event simulation and one or more network simulation software packages, e.g., ns-2/ns-3, OPNET, QualNet.
