The Embedded and Open Systems Group researches, develops, and integrates software and processing architectures for sensors, aircraft, ground, and cloud-based systems, to meet challenging national security needs.  To accomplish this, we use our expertise in system architectures, data architectures, cloud computing, software engineering, embedded processing, and prototype development. We apply modern software engineering principles and commercial best practices to ensure that effectiveness, reliability, efficiency, and security are always a priority in all our solutions.  We work in interdisciplinary teams by partnering with fellow Laboratory groups, academia, and industry partners. We succeed by participating in all program phases of system analysis, architecture definition, design, prototyping, field testing, and ultimately the transfer of our technology. 

 

Position Description

 

The Embedded and Open Systems Group is seeking an IT Systems Administrator, to support unclassified and classified computing needs with a particular focus on supporting troubleshooting, documentation, security, and cloud computing. The candidate’s responsibilities will include:

 

  • Implement scripts and other automation tools to patch software and operating systems in compliance with best practices
  • Supporting installation, configuration and management of physical and virtual Windows and Linux systems
  • Support installation, maintenance, repair and upgrades of computer and network equipment
  • Review and test hardware and software applications and make recommendations for purchases.
  • Supporting information assurance personnel in implementing and documenting computer system security requirements for the development environments
  • Support the remediation of vulnerabilities and maintaining compliance with Lab security policies

 

Desired Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Computer and Information Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related
  • 2+ years of experience in system administration in both a Windows and Linux environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners
  • Proven ability to quickly and effectively learn new technologies, adapt to new environments and methodologies, and work outside one’s own comfort zone
  • Familiarity with User Management with Microsoft’s Active Directory
  • Experience with VMware vSphere (vSAN, ESXi, vCenter Server versions 7/8)
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange Server 2016/2019
  • Experience applying software patch/antivirus updates/backups
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Firewall/VPN configuration
  • Experience administering computer networking and protocols (DHCP, DNS, NFS, etc.)
  • Applicant must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret, Top Secret, and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance Applicant must be open to the possibility of obtaining and maintain Special Access Program security clearance
  • Applicant must be open to 60%+ on-site time

 

 

You will stand out if you also have:

 

  • Experience with DoD vulnerability management and tracking
  • Some familiarity / experience with Mac OS
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google public clouds
  • Experience and skill developing and administering various sized LAN/WAN environments.
  • Strong teamwork experience, self-motivation, and organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Experience applying security lockdown policies to operating systems through group policy and local settings
  • Familiarity working with Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Knowledge of DoD security procedures
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II Baseline Certification (i.e. CompTIA Sec+)
  • Manage file shares, virtual infrastructures and SAN/NAS environments
  • Familiarity with management of Atlassian Products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Familiarity with continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI/CD) Pipelines (Jenkins / Bamboo)
  • Experience with Security development tools (Lint, SonarQube, SonarQube, Fortify SCA, PrismaCloud / Twistlock, trivy, OWASP)
  • Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Experience with Maven Gradle
  • Familiarity Binary Repositories (Nexus 3)
  • Experience with Container Technologies (Docker, Podman) and Container Orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker Compose)
