Within Microsoft Digital, Infrastructure & Engineering Services is the team that engineers, deploys and manages the internal Microsoft network infrastructure. We deliver industry leading transport and wired networking solutions that address Microsoft business needs at a global scale. As a Senior Cloud Network Engineer, you are responsible for the design, deployment, and operations of network devices (WAN/LAN) including all the connected. The focus of this position is to design and deploy infrastructure solutions that provide the underpinning for client and server connectivity within the Microsoft network. This job includes interaction with multiple teams including product teams, infrastructure and security teams, and service/project management teams. Engineers are expected to adapt in a dynamic environment, work with tight timelines for project deployments, and work collaboratively with teammates.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 7+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- 3+ years’ experience in cloud computing, networking, and security technologies, such as Azure, Palo Alto Firewalls, Azure Firewall, Virtual WAN, Load balancers, VPN, IDS/IPS, DNS, DHCP
- 2+ years’ experience working with Layer 2 protocols, Layer 3 networking with IP, as well as routing protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS).
- 3+ years’ experience troubleshooting across a variety of networking platforms including, but not limited to, Cisco, Juniper, and Arista.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and services, such as Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.
- Skills in programming, scripting, and automation, such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, etc.
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve complex security problems.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

Network Design and Implementation
- Perform technical analysis and lead the design architecture of network plans for the enterprise, analyzing network & security requirements of the business and architects’ solutions that include available and resilient designs.
- Install, upgrade, and maintain network or security hardware and operating system and software as needed, leveraging automation with experience in network hardware from Cisco, Arista, and Palo Alto Firewalls.
- Influence and drive ongoing design, architecture, standards, and methods for operating services and systems.
- Collaborate with internal business units and stakeholders to educate on existing capabilities and translate customer needs into requirements to deliver new/updated capabilities efficiently.
- Evangelize the best network engineering practices and processes within and across teams.
- Improve transparency and monitorability of services.
- Automate repetitive tasks to reduce implementation time and avoid failure due to human error.
- Required to be hands-on, bring innovative approaches that continuously improve our ability to deliver faster, better, and inexpensive solutions while reducing the time and cost to build solutions and on-board with the highest quality.
- Drive the design creation for next generation network, execute proof of concept and pilot for new network design, Work with different tooling teams to codify new network design for operation readiness.
- Create a migration strategy to ensure smooth transition from current design to next generation design.
Maintaining and Operating Networks
- Participate in on-call DRI rotation to support Network Infrastructure services and to troubleshoot and resolve production issues which serves as a feedback loop to improve design.
- Oversee complex infrastructure network or security projects, including design, deployment, and monitoring, and perform complex incident management and problem resolution for network and security systems.
- Handle Layer 3 technologies, including IPv4, BGP, IPv6, HSRP, and VRRP. Apply strong technical knowledge of enterprise networking solutions for very large environments, at scale (e.g., MPLS/BGP, routing, switching, SDN, VXLAN), and have knowledge of SD-WAN technologies.
- Monitor state of network using tools such as SNMP, Sflow/Netflow, and Streaming Telemetry, in compliance with current capacity plan guidelines and compliance.
