In your capacity as a Senior Cloud Optical Network Engineer, Azure Fiber, you will play a pivotal role in deploying and operating cutting-edge optical networking solutions designed to meet the rigorous demands of AI-driven applications. This dynamic position bridges development and operations, positioning you at the intersection of advanced technology research and global network strategy. You’ll contribute to initiatives that drive operational excellence, paving the way for the development of state-of-the-art automation platforms.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 11+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
  • 1+ year(s) experience delivering network designs into production and experience with live site accountability for a network.
  • Automation experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C#, JavaScript, SQL or RUST.

Cloud Network Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence: Lead mission-critical operations for fiber network, ensuring they meet the highest standards of reliability and efficiency. Turn operational hurdles into product improvements.
  • Network Automation: Develop software solutions to automate operational runbooks and explore innovative approaches to reduce manual effort through AI and software solutions.
  • Incident Management: Be part of the Optical operational on-call rotation following the "follow the sun" model to maintain high network availability, swiftly addressing and resolving incidents as they arise.
  • Tooling, Development, and Code Optimization: Create and maintain operations, runbooks, workflows, and self-remediation tools. Write, enhance, and streamline code for managing and automating optical networks, emphasizing scalability and efficiency for AI networks.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct in-depth investigations into issues, develop action plans, and implement changes to prevent future occurrences.
  • Customer-First Approach: Embody and promote a customer-first mentality within the team, ensuring all projects and operations enhance customer satisfaction and service quality.
  • Rapid Expansion: Streamlining network deployments by contributing to cutting-edge automation for rapid and efficient infrastructure expansion.
