Overview

As the Cloud Operations + Innovations Team (CO+I) expands, we are seeking a talented CorpNet Network Engineer to join our team in the exciting endeavor of designing and implementing Microsoft’s Corporate Network (CorpNet) within Microsoft’s Datacenters.

The Network Engineer role is to collaborate with Integration Technical Infrastructure Manager (ITIMs), Project Managers, Network Planners, and vendors, to design the WAN (Wide Area Networks), LAN (Local Area Networks), and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Networks) networks, by creating ROMs (Rough Order of Magnitude), BOMs (bills of materials), and a Network Connectivity Matrix. You'll also contribute to prestaging configurations, ticketing for device setups, and post-go-live troubleshooting. Your role ensures the efficient operation of Microsoft's network infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Currently hold at least one Cisco and/or HPE certification (CCNA, CCNP, HPE, ATP, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working on data center projects.
  • Prior experience creating High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for complex network architectures.
  • Working knowledge of wireless design processes (predative, post survey, heatmaps, reading blueprints) and use of Ekahau and Visio.
  • Prior experience in designing and deploying Cisco WAN/LAN and HPE/Aruba wired / wireless solutions.
  • Good understanding of network protocols, topologies, and routing/switching technologies.
  • Familiarity with network security principles and best practices.

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Construction Project Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as network architects, project managers, and implementation engineers, to define WAN, LAN and WLAN hardware requirements for various site build outs and ensure smooth and successful deployment of network solutions.
  • Designing and implementing our CorpNet, as well as identifying opportunities to enhance the efficiency of existing networks.
  • Developing comprehensive High-Level Network Designs (HLDs) incorporating Cisco WAN and LAN, while utilizing HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) / Aruba WLAN solutions.
  • Creating detailed Low-Level Designs (LLDs) that outline specific configuration and implementation requirements.
  • Preparing correct Bill of Materials (BOMs) to ensure the availability of necessary equipment and components.
  • Actively taking part in design review meetings to gather requirements and align network solutions with the organization's business goals.
  • Creating a Network Design Template (NDT) and Patching Templates.
  • Generating and uploading staging documents to ease pre-implementation preparation.
  • Supplying regular updates on network status to key stakeholders, keeping them informed about progress and any relevant changes.
  • Supporting Project Closeout activities by aiding in troubleshooting and offering technical guidance and ability to resolve any post-turnup punch list items.
  • Updating and meticulously keeping correct documentation, including network diagrams, configuration files, runbooks and other relevant records.
  • Contributing to the knowledge base by documenting best practices, troubleshooting procedures, and design guidelines.
