Job Summary

The Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research (KF-CCR) and the Department of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital are seeking a Systems Administrator to support the deployment and operation of a new, high-performance computing (HPC) cluster enabling cutting-edge AI/ML, genomics, and single-cell sequencing research. The ideal candidate has strong Linux administration experience, familiarity with distributed computing and containerized environments, and enjoys collaborating directly with scientists to help accelerate discovery. This position offers the opportunity to shape an emerging research computing platform from the ground up while working with world-class investigators across Mass General Brigham.


Qualifications

The Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research (KF-CCR) and the Department of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital are deploying a new, state-of-the-art high-performance computing (HPC) cluster to accelerate computational research across our community. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Systems Administrator to lead and support the technical operation of this new infrastructure. You will work closely with faculty, postdocs, and data scientists developing cutting-edge workflows in cancer genomics, single-cell and spatial sequencing, image analysis, and machine learning, while partnering with MGB Enterprise Research Infrastructure & Services for seamless integration and scale.

The main responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

● Contribute to the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of a multi-node GPU-enabled HPC cluster.

● Manage Linux system administration, user access, security, backups, and monitoring.

● Support and optimize job scheduling (SLURM) and high-performance storage environments.

● Assist researchers with onboarding, environment setup (e.g., containers/conda), and workflow troubleshooting.

● Maintain documentation and best practices for a growing HPC user base.

● Participate in planning for long-term scalability, performance, and resource allocation.

● Facilitate integration of cloud or hybrid compute as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related field.

● Strong Linux systems administration experience in an HPC or performance-critical setting.

● Familiarity with containerization technologies (Singularity/Apptainer, Docker).

● Experience with job schedulers (SLURM strongly preferred).

● Working knowledge of scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.).

● Strong communication and collaborative skills working with diverse research groups. Preferred experience:

● Experience supporting research computing in the biomedical or data science domain.

● Experience with GPU systems (e.g., NVIDIA ecosystems), InfiniBand networking, and parallel file systems.

● Understanding of genomics or image-based analysis workflows.

● Experience deploying monitoring and security tools in HPC environments.
