Overview

Within the Computational and AI Services team within the Informatics & Analytics department, the System Administrator - Storage Management will serve the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and its patients by providing computing services and assistance to faculty and research staff. The position is part of a specialized group of highly skilled engineers and administrators closely engaged with the research departments, bringing practical hands-on computer expertise, HPC and storage expertise, and cloud operational support to cutting edge bio-medical research.
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include active monitoring and fast response to help desk requests such as to ensure high system availability to all users with minimal interruptions. They will help coordinate services, account access, or software/hardware issues.
The role requires a good background with hands-on experience and proficiency in multiple systems, configuration management technologies, experience supporting scientific users and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a research-focused multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct user assistance in addressing issues related RCS service offerings: HPC, Compute and Storage, end-user support and cloud operations
  • Contribute to the planning and execute small support projects with minimal supervision
  • Contribute to the implementation of process improvement and modernization projects as needed
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and help resolve system, access, and other problems where possible or hand-off to senior staff for resolution.
  • Monitor help desk queues and take necessary actions in coordination with the rest of the support team as well as other enterprise departments, to ensure high availability of research computing resources for all users.
  • Collect metrics on the volume and quality of the support activities as directed.
  • Create scripts to automate and streamline process/computer deployment and management.
  • Work closely with the scientific staff to anticipate requirements for computational infrastructure and help management to plan accordingly.
  • May help in the investigation of vendor products and contribute to recommendations for purchases
  • May contribute to user training sessions, training materials and documents as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned / needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, MS preferred in Computer Science or related field and 3-5 years relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree requirement. Performs primary duties as above as directed and requires close to moderate supervision.
  • Knowledge of MacOS, Windows Os
  • Hands-on experience using Linux, HTML, Python.
  • Experience with systems management applications such as KACE, Confluence, Jira, and ServiceNow.
  • Exceptional service orientation, excellent problem-solving abilities; keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative technical team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to interact productively with users and colleagues of diverse seniority levels and professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences appropriately.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

$87,000 - $100,400
