About the Role
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Knowledge Management Intern for Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS)
The EHS-IT team supporting the MassHealth (MH) within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EHS) is seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Intern. The person hired for this position should have prior AI experience to support our existing chatbot built on AWS and build new solutions but not limited to: requirements, design, development, testing and implementation. The person hired will be working to support the enhancement of a generative AI-powered knowledge tool instance reusing MEC AI Knowledge technical solution to improve access to MMIS operational and technical information.
The primary work location for this role will be at 100 Hancock St, Quincy, Massachusetts 02171. The work schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM EST. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed.
Key Responsibilities
· Partner with MMIS stakeholders to identify and curate knowledge sources (e.g., SharePoint, documentation repositories)
· Prepare and structure content for ingestion into AI tools (e.g., Amazon Kendra, Bedrock)
· Conduct testing and evaluation of chatbot responses for accuracy and usability
· Recommend and implement improvements to model performance and content organization
· Document methodology and create a repeatable framework for scaling knowledge tools
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
· Interest in AI/ML, data systems, or information management
· Ability to work with structured and unstructured data
· Familiarity with cloud platform (AWS/Azure) and AI tools (preferred)
· Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and system-thinking mindset
· Strong writing and documentation skills
· Ability to translate complex information into simple steps
Special Requirements:
· Undergraduate or graduate student.

Additional Information:
- Internship Timeframe: June - August 2026
- Hours: 8:00AM to 4:00PM
- Primary work location*: 100 Hancock St, Quincy, Massachusetts 02171
- Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM EST
- Benefits are unavailable with the exception of sick leave accruals.
- All interns will be paid on a biweekly basis and must have direct deposit.
- The salary for this position is $19 an hour.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
