Overview:

The mission of the City of Boston Property Management Department (PMD) is to manage, maintain, repair, and provide security for the City's municipal buildings, including City Hall and Faneuil Hall; to preserve the useful life of City facilities and reduce operating costs through effective preventative maintenance measures. Directly responsible to the Sergeant, the Security Officer has primary responsibility for enforcing security and safety procedures at various locations serviced by the Municipal Protective Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs security duty at an assigned post and/or performs security patrols by vehicle or on foot of buildings and grounds with particular emphasis on security and safety violations.
  • Responds to alarms or other calls for assistance and report all safety and security violations to the Sergeant.
  • Assists with the safety of vehicle and pedestrian traffic and issues authorized traffic enforcement citations.
  • Prepares incident reports, monitors security cameras and accesses controls and requires visitors to register in/out in log books.
  • Assists other Public Safety agencies in safety and security violations.
  • Apprehends and arrests individuals who break the law in their area of assignment.
  • Secures and maintains all equipment issued by the department and maintains necessary supplies of report forms, log books, and access control sheets for their shift.
  • Performs other related security tasks as designated by the Sergeant.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
