Job Summary

Senior Database Administrator (Mass General Brigham Health Plan; Somerville, MA):
The Senior Database Administrator role leads the effort in the maintenance and monitoring of scheduled database and server processes including data loads, user logins, backups, performance monitoring and tuning utilizing Microsoft SQL Servers on both onprem(2016, 2017 & 2019) and Azure cloud (SQL PASS, IAAS & Managed Instances) instances. The Senior Database Administrator implements server upgrades, ensures data integrity, maintains up-to-date data schemas, database contents, and metadata documentation, and defines and administers security policies using Active Directory groups.

Specific responsibilities include: Working with little supervision, assuming immediate day-to-day responsibility for managing multiple MSSQL databases (2016/2017/2019/Azure SQL); Evaluating new releases of OS and database software; Recovering and repairing data systems in the event of data corruption or system failure; Proactively scheduling and facilitating necessary server upgrades to accommodate growth and ensure acceptable system performance and response times.; Writing Transact SQL scripts as needed; Leading efforts and participating in the analysis, design, development, documentation, testing and implementation of SQL server upgrade projects to latest version of SQL Server; Acting as a direct liaison with customers, Technical Services, and developers; Providing support to department management and staff in technical, training and administrative areas; and participating in the development, revision, and implementation of policies, guidelines, standards and procedures, including request management, project management, change management, and standardization requirements; Leading the effort for automating and supporting the daily/weekly/monthly maintenance jobs, monthly Data Warehouse processes, and various day-to-day tasks/activities; Setting up and maintaining replication technologies such as Read Scale Availability Groups; Leading efforts for the support, maintenance and performance of 3rd party applications used in the Finance Department (including Great Plains, Dynamics CRM, SAS etc.), the Human Resources department, and the Help Desk; Monitoring and keeping up-to-date status/activities of all requests logged, ensuring the on-time delivery of performance reports, promptly addressing production control related issues and concerns, and ensuring all system outages or incidents are logged, resolved and followed-up on through to complete resolution; Utilizing strong knowledge of scripting (like T-SQL, PowerShell etc.) to automate various DBA activities and create new solutions for troubleshooting issues; Participating in yearly Disaster Recovery related activities, preparing monthly, yearly and ad-hoc requests, and preparing audit reports for SQL database and other systems access; Position based at company headquarters; Telecommuting from within U.S. permitted pursuant to company policy.


Qualifications

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other quantitative field or equivalent and 5 years of experience in Database Administration or any occupation/title providing experience in health care related development and maintenance including data warehouse modeling, design, development, performance analysis, and programming scripts.

Must have: Demonstrated working knowledge of MS SQL Server 2014 and above, including strong skills in SQL, Analysis Services (SSAS), Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS) & PowerBI; Demonstrated experience in database design and architecture; Demonstrated experience using monitoring, reporting and auditing tools like SCOM, Power BI dashboards and Idera SQL Compliance Audit; Demonstrated strong track record of an ability to execute on time, on budget, and on scope; Demonstrated strong aptitude for technology-based solutions; and Demonstrated current knowledge of healthcare trends. (Unless otherwise indicated, employer is seeking the ability in the skills listed above with no specific number of years of experience required. All experience can be gained concurrently.)
