We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Network Experience team within the Open Ecosystem, Data & Ecosystem Platform zone.
The Open Ecosystem zone exists to enable partners, builders, and integrators to create and securely deploy solutions that connect seamlessly to athenaOne—our cloud-based healthcare platform serving 100,000+ providers across the country.
The Network Experience team is in a formative stage, with an evolving roadmap and significant opportunities for impact. Our mission is to strengthen and scale athenaConnect, the ecosystem’s cornerstone platform for discovering, integrating, and managing healthcare connections. As we shape the future of our ecosystem experience, we are looking for engineers who excel in ambiguity, enjoy owning complex technical problems, and want to influence the direction of a high-impact platform.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop high-quality, scalable software that supports a growing ecosystem of partners and integration experiences.
Own features and services end-to-end, including design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and long-term maintainability.
Proactively identify technical improvements that increase platform performance, reliability, and developer experience.
Collaborate with product, design, architecture, and engineering teams across our zone to clarify requirements and deliver cohesive solutions.
Mentor and support engineers through thoughtful code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
Follow and contribute to coding conventions, architectural standards, and best practices.
Qualifications
4-6 years of experience as a professional software engineer
Strong proficiency in modern frontend technologies including React, TypeScript, Webpack, and responsive HTML/CSS design patterns
Experience with server-side JavaScript, especially Node.js
Full-stack development experience and comfort navigating both frontend and backend systems
Experience working in an agile environment and contributing meaningfully to team planning and delivery
Experience with AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes is a plus
Experience with AI/LLM technologies (RAG, semantic search, prompt engineering) is a plus
Expected Compensation
$102,000 - $174,000The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
